Beth

What attracted me to Beth was her simple, unruffled background.  Girl next door, no doubt about it.  She’s fresh-faced, sun kissed and pretty much up for anything.  She still embodies the one thing that girls regularly attempt to discard…innocence.  She’s happy with herself, happy with her friends, happy with her life….at least she was anyway.

I can’t begin to recall how many times I’ve had the “rug pulled out from under me” in my lifetime.  Amazingly, it still happens, but only a couple times a year.  I guess people don’t shock me as much as they used to…  What I can remember, vividly, is how I felt as a teen when someone I cared about did something so incredibly unexpected, it took me awhile to figure out how to cope with it.  Whether it was friends, sisters, cousins, boyfriends…parents, I was continually blown away.  I’m not sure how much of the impact was a result of my expectations of them, or their actions…probably both.  Either way, it affected me, deeply at times.

The rug just hasn’t been pulled out from under Beth…her home, and all it’s contents, and everything she’s known has been snatched away so quickly, it’s left her breathless.

So what happens when your all-American, well-adjusted, secure teenager is faced with an abandonment that literally pushes her off her axis?
