Ana
Ana is definitely a character in the book…a main character. She is a strong force, a reliable friend found in despair, a manipulative enemy. You want to please her, earn her acceptance and admiration. You want her to go away, forever.
So many compete to be the best for her. Some search her out, others find her on a whim. Her talons slowly embed deeper and deeper the longer your relationship lasts.
Curious, some choose to only dance one song with Ana. Others dance the long night through, finally leaving in the dark hours of the morning. And some never leave the dance.
The lucky ones never got an invitation.
The reasons behind the decision to dance vary from person to person. Trauma, low self-esteem, pressure, depression, distraction… The participant must choose to leave the dance or it will end, forever. There’s no magic number, there’s no magic size, there’s no magic moment. Only a downward spiral of dissatisfaction and disappointment. Only a tragedy.
Ana will take you away from your family, friends, life.
This is the truth. This is anorexia.
